We hosted an event in May in the lead up the Menstrual Hygiene Day. The vision of Menstrual Hygiene Day is to enable every woman and girl to manage their menstruation in a hygienic way, in privacy, with safety and with dignity. They want to break the silence and build awareness of the fundamental role that good menstrual hygiene management plays in enabling women and girls to reach their full potential. Shared Threads wants to play a part in raising awareness of the challenges women and girls face due to their menstruation and highlight solutions that address these solutions.

So we gathered flowers, friends baked cakes, we invited women and they came. The wonderful Janice @gatheredthreads lead a spring wreath making workshop. She is so talented and creative in this area and so inspiring to work with. I know that the women who came went home genuinely delighted with wreath they had made.

Amidst the infectious creative buzz, I chatted to anyone who would listen about cloth sanitary pads and periods and about removing the limits that menstruation can put on the lives of so many women and girls.

It was a beautiful evening of women of all ages gathering to make wreaths and talking about taking action, about sharing gifts, sharing fabric, about bringing about dignity, not to mention the tea and cake.
